Between the Tides Festival: Coastal Creativity for Children and Young People
In 2023, I started Between the Tides Festival in Redcar, a project dedicated to celebrating the vibrant intersection of art, community, and the coastal environment, specifically for children and young people. As the creative producer, I oversaw the entire festival processes alongside a fantastic team of collaborators within the local authority, from concept development to execution, navigating the complexities of coordinating a diverse team of artists.
It was a mammoth task that required not only vision and creativity but also strong collaboration. I worked closely with a design and marketing team to develop a new brand and cohesive marketing strategy that engaged our audiences and fostered connections within the community.
The festival was part of the Without Walls Touring Network Partnership, enriching our programming by allowing us to collaborate with a variety of innovative artists and organisations. A highlight of the festival was hosting a stunning Luminarium by Architects of Air, which captivated attendees with its immersive and colourful experience. This addition provided a unique opportunity for exploration and wonder, further enhancing the festival's atmosphere.
Throughout the year, I focused on engaging local talent and inspiring the next generation through hands-on experiences that highlighted the importance of our coastal heritage. Between the Tides became a platform for meaningful conversations about belonging, identity, and our relationship with the sea.
Reflecting on my time with the festival, I'm proud of the impact we made in fostering community connections and celebrating the transformative power of outdoor arts for young people. It was a year filled with creativity, collaboration, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of our surroundings.
